Yet another stellar franchise is coming to the Twin Cities courtesy if Kill Rock Stars out of Portland. But these folks do not hail from the West Coast. Stereo Total arrives here from Berlin, Germany, and how fitting. Last I checked we have a mighty strong, kraut eating, German population here in Minnesota. Though something tells me that alone won’t necessarily afford them a sizeable audience, so why don’t we all welcome them, shall we?

Coming all the way from San Diego, is the eclectic one-man-band Wavves, this time to the Entry on April 5th. Nathan Williams, a.k.a. Wavves stirs up an impressive set of punk rock beats that bring to mind prior legends such as The Dead Kennedys and Sonic Youth. His somewhat self-titled album, Wavvves (note the extra V, there) has been brewing for quite some time, and is now scheduled for release on March 17th, 2009. The single So Bored combines the heavy-layered bass sets that encompasses most other Wavves tracks like, Beach Demon and Weed Demon, but also includes, an almost folkish background vocal in the vein of early psychedelic bands such as The Byrds…. this is springtime party music, without a doubt, and it looks like Wavves has the proper list of tour dates to prove it. They’ll be joined by Vampire Hands.

Well, they were just here not two weeks ago, and apparently they must have enjoyed the fine city of Minneapolis, because they are quickly returning. If you missed School of Seven Bells (like I did) you’re in luck! You get another chance to see and hear the Deheza sisters in action, but this time they’ll be playing at the Triple Rock Social Club instead of the Entry. Pros – a larger room with overall better sound (IMO). Cons - less intimacy, which may actually matter here. I imagine SoSBs music would find more comfort in smaller venues, and vice versa, but to see how it all shakes down you’ll need to check em’ out, now won’t you? To view photos of their last performance on Feb. 12 at the Entry, click here.

We have many of our own resident starfuckers in the Twin Cities, but none quite like this Portland outfit. Fluorescent colors, cross-dressing, an infatuation with pink (the color, not the performer, but then again, who knows), and phallic imagery on their myspace page. The guys make fabulous fabulously bad in so many ways, and its wonderful. But the music, ah, now there is the real treat. Pop, yes, but would Max Martin approve? Maybe not so much. Chances are you may, especially if you are one our resident starfuckers. They’ll be playing along with Kuroma at the Entry on April 14.

If rock n’ roll is characterized by binary oppositions, then Rachael Yamagata may hold the scepter of the lighter side of rock. If however, rock n’ roll may not be characterized this way, then Yamagata doesn’t need your or my systematic framework to operate within. Screw the technical jargon, she rocks, ad it shouldn’t matter to anyone that the decibel level of her tunes may often be described as… pleasant? She fell off my radar for the last few years, but I am so happy I have returned! You should too, or at least start keeping track of your damn stardar! Tunes.

We should thank our lucky stars everyday that we still have Depeche Mode, but since they won’t be stopping in Minneapolis on their U.S. Tour, we should curse the galaxy. (That’s right, it’s all the Milky Way’s fault)
Their new album Sounds Of The Universe is out 4/17 in Germay, 4/20 internationally, and 4/21 in the US via Mute/EMI. (Source article – stereogum)
