Author: Skelly April 20th, 2009

The story behind “Help I’m Alive” is an interesting case study in modern music distribution dynamics.  Want the story?  Read more below, and in the meantime check out this wee experiment by Canadian film maker Deco Dawson.  Afterwards make plans to check out Metric on June 13 at First Avenue.

Skelly in New York City

Author: Skelly April 17th, 2009

Trump tower Skelly in New York CityWondering where everything  went today?  Well, to New York City I suppose, and Northfield.  After flying into Laguardia, I got lost in Harlem, was chased by Batman, and passed by the Trump Tower.  After sharing my choice thoughts on Trump with a friend, we made our way to Time Square, Central Park, and the Mister Softies mobile.  For those uninitiated, Mister Softies is a New York mainstay, as are random hot dog booths.  Two chili dogs and a Mango juice later, here we stand on the brink of a cross-country journey.

See you all in the Twin Cities next week.  In the meantime, be good yourselves.

Record Store Day this Saturday, April 18
It’s been talked about for months, and now it’s finally here.  Record Store Day, the day we all bum rush our local music peddlers and cause them dire stocking issues in the aftermath.  Of course, any local music shop would be ecstatic if they found themselves thousands of albums down, but tens of thousands of dollars up.  Towards this end various special events and deals are being offered by local record stores, and we’ve put together a short list (surprisingly shorter than we would like) of some you might be interested in exploiting!  (Note: record store websites are not very detailed.  If you’ve heard of a sale or event going on at a local record store this Saturday that is not mentioned below, please share!)

M. Ward Covers Buddy Holly with “Rave On” Video

Author: Skelly April 16th, 2009

I’m not exactly sure how all the imagery ties into the song, but I did appreciate the junking of all the teles towards the end.  I always encourage the killing of televisions.
