Ari Herstand at the Varsity Theater (07/10/09)
Ari Herstand is the quirkiest beat-boxing solo acoustic artist in the Twin Cities, and many, many people (mostly women ages 18 – 30) adore the man with the skills to pull everything off live on his own. Herstand plays the guitar, trumpet, piano, harmonica, and the beat box, and he loops everything with electronic devices to make it sound as if he is playing everything live at once! There is something both masterful and artistic about this, and of course, it takes a lot of practice to do this stuff!
Below are some live photos and audio from the show last Friday evening. If you haven’t caught a live Ari Herstand show yet, it’s recommended. If Cities 97 doesn’t have Herstand on regular rotation, then fools they be, or in Benjamin they trust (or both).

What was the venue in Milwaukee like? The Varsity in Minneapolis seemed particularly well suited for him, but something tells me Ari might be capable of bending live rooms to his own will (or at least the audiences).
