Mike Minehart Tweets Green Day
(Editors note: Green Day and The Bravery played Minneapolis’ Target Center on July 11, 2009.)
This show was literally like a dream come true for me. Green Day,
arguably my most favorite band of all-time, and The Bravery, in my
opinion another one of the best bands on the planet, together on the
same stage. With it being at the Target Center though, I wouldn’t really
have the chance to shoot photos. So instead I decided to tweet a sort of
play-by-play of the show. I hope you like lots of swearing and
excitement, because this was quite possibly the greatest show I’ve ever
seen so far in my life…

7:52 PM Fucking stoked! Just got here and it looks like The
Bravery is on shortly.
7:56 PM I’m in section 113 row G and literally right by the left
side of the stage. Hell yes.
7:59 PM Oh my god The Bravery are on! Opened with Unconditional.
8:00 PM Bassist Dirt is wearing some weird mask.
8:03 PM Swollen Summer
8:06 PM Believe
8:07 PM Sun version, FYI. I’ll try to denote sun or moon on 2nd
album songs.
8:11 PM New song! Hatefuck.
8:12 PM That’s actually what it’s called too.
8:15 PM New song! Red Hands & White Knuckles.
8:19 PM Time Won’t Let Me Go, sun.
8:23 PM Every Word Is a Knife In My Ear, sun. Will they play any
moon versions? Hope so.
8:26 PM An Honest Mistake
8:33 PM Already over?! Damn. They’re worthy off at least an
hour-plus, which is why I’m glad they’re headlining a certain
unannounced show Oct 3.
8:35 PM Crowd was so tepid, it pisses me off whenever a great
opener is shunned. Oh well. Green Day is on soon! It’s been 4 years
since I saw them.
8:59 PM Drunk pink bunny!
9:06 PM GREEN DAY!!! Opened with 21st Century Breakdown.
9:12 PM Billie Joe Armstrong is the Freddy Mercury of this
generation.
9:13 PM Know Your Enemy! They might play the whole album?!
9:19 PM East Jesus Nowhere
9:23 PM Billie Joe wants to bring a kid on stage to “save” him,
haha.
9:24 PM Lucky little bastard.
9:26 PM Holiday!
9:31 PM The Static Age
9:36 PM Before The Lobotomy
9:38 PM Billie Joe tells a story about going to Mankato when he
was 19 as an intro. His wife is originally from there.
9:43 PM Are We The Waiting, probably into St. Jimmy.
9:44 PM Some random chick got pull on stage. Lucky.
9:50 PM Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Billie Joe is out of breath.
I’d be too if I were him.
9:54 PM Tre Cool must literally go though dozens of sticks per
show with all the throwing he does, haha.
9:55 PM Hitchin’ a Ride
9:58 PM I love all the fucking around they do on stage. Amazing
banter.
9:59 PM Uh oh, he might start jerking off again, haha.
9:59 PM This is obscene. Rock and fucking roll!
10:00 PM Gods. Total gods.
10:03 PM Rampaging all over with scorching fire and pyro is mind
blowing.
10:04 PM Guitar solo, teasing Crazy Train by Ozzy, Iron Man,
Master of Puppets, hilarious.
10:05 PM Some random unknown cover now? Intriguing.
10:06 PM Something about “Let’s get crazy”.
10:07 PM It was Prince, I’m an idiot. Brain Stew probably into
Jaded!
10:11 PM Super Soaker on the crowd between the double song!
10:12 PM Another lucky fucking kid on stage has the soaker now.
Billie Joe is shooting a toilet paper gun!
10:12 PM T shirt gun literally to the back of the arena!
10:15 PM Longview!
10:16 PM He’s going to bring someone on stage to sing! Picked a
girl.
10:18 PM New person now! Picked a girl for the next verse.
10:19 PM She forgot the words. I’d piss myself and die if I were
up there.
10:19 PM One more to sing. It’s a dude.
10:21 PM He’s not bad. Good stage presence and knows the words.
Fuck!
10:22 PM Stage dive for Tyler!
10:23 PM Basket Case!
10:26 PM She!
10:29 PM They’re all dressed up and Billie is being a dick as a
cop, haha. King For a Day!
10:31 PM Billie Joe waved his mostly bare ass at the crowd.
10:31 PM Call and response with the sax. Solo!
10:33 PM Stop! Breakdown into Shout? Yes!
10:34 PM Chick threw her bra at Billie Joe. They’re fucking
around and having a blast just being hilarious.
10:37 PM Laying on stage, waiting to make it louder now.
10:38 PM Throwing in a little Stand By Me.
10:39 PM Louder now!
10:41 PM Busting out the acoustic for 21 Guns.
10:41 PM Lighters and cell phones galore.
10:44 PM Raining fucking sparks!
10:46 PM Last song before encore, American Eulogy.
10:51 PM Best fucking rock and roll town in America according to
Billie Joe.
10:52 PM They’ve earned an infinite number of encores for that.
Waiting for the reemergence.
10:53 PM Back! Now… American Idiot!
10:54 PM I was rocking out so hard that I knocked my own glasses
off. Haha.
11:00 PM Crowd is deafening. Oh fuck, now he’s going to bring
someone on stage to play guitar on Jesus of Suburbia! Picked a chick.
Let’s see…
11:02 PM She’s okay I guess.
11:07 PM Takes a pic with Billie Joe and she gets a stage dive
too!
11:12 PM My brain is going to implode. My god. Minority!
11:15 PM Harmonica breakdown!
11:17 PM Introducing the band, hopefully this isn’t the end…
Gave a shoutout to Dinkytown.
11:18 PM Eternal note of death… I did it!
11:19 PM Confetti!
11:22 PM Acoustic back out… something about a Minnesota girl,
solo…
11:23 PM Good Riddance. Everyone singing.
11:26 PM Quite possibly the greatest show I have ever seen in my
entire life. FUCKING EPIC

Sounds like the show was pretty stellacular! I’m still not sold on Billie Joe Armstrong as this generations Freddie Mercury though. They do share that conspicuous “ie” at the end of their names.
I wonder who the Bono of this generation is… I submit Bono as the Bono of this generation.
I’m still wondering who the Captain Beefheart of our generation is.
Really though, what a great liveblog/review. If I hadn’t already loaded up on tickets to other shows I might’ve been able to afford the Ticketbastard surcharges.
Ticketbastard Erik? Love it!
Captain Beefheart eh? Hmmm… maybe this guy?
My neck is still sore from that show too, haha.
