Throw The Fight at Taste of Minnesota

The local rock band, Throw The Fight, kicked off the main stage performances at this year’s Taste of Minnesota, performing for a group of loyal fans. The show almost didn’t happen after vocalist, James Clark, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in early June. Having to undergo surgery, Throw The Fight had to cancel one of their shows in Superior, Wis., so Clark could recover.
Armed with dance moves that will make you blush, Clark made his way around the main stage without skipping a beat. Though he toned down his usual routine of high kicks and jumps, the show was no less entertaining due to his slew of “ball” jokes, which made one feel bad for laughing, but were too damn funny not too.
Besides the newly added comedic routine, Throw The Fight added three new songs to their set list including the show opener: “Beautiful,” “Blood Shot Eyes,” and “Out of Time.” The band’s new material is a bit heavier and is packed with fast guitar riffs and powerful vocals courtesy of Clark. Clark’s battle with cancer will undoubtedly influence his song writing as the band moves forward writing their next album due out later this year.

James Clark - Throw The Fight
The sometimes foul-mouthed Brit (Clark), has a softer, sentimental side, made evident by a tattoo on his forearm that reads, “To those I’ve lost, I remember,” a tribute to relatives that have lost their battle with cancer in recent years. Clark has no intention of throwing his fight against cancer, his surgery was a success, but he still requires a round of chemotherapy to eradicate any lingering cancer cells.
Cancer is only the first battle for Clark. His next fight will be a financial one. Clark, like so many others, is without medical insurance and kicking cancer’s ass comes at a high cost. To help Clark manage his medical bills, the rest of the guys in Throw The Fight (Ryan, Joey, Aaron and Cory), added a donate widget to the Throw The Fight Myspace page. The band is also planning a benefit concert in the fall where a portion of the proceeds will go to the Livestrong Foundation.
