Jack White Reveals a New Music Project, Dead Weather
It’s strange. Vivid memories of music are often reserved for particular moments in time. A first kiss, a road trip with a friend, or even a night of camping. Sometimes we remember musical moments because the artist is quite meaningful to us. For instance, I remember the first time I heard “Come Down’ by Toad the Wet Sprocket. I was working in a Target store in Brooklyn Center, MN, and the song came on the dreadful advert machine that displayed on all the salesfloor televisions. I also remember where I was the first time I heard that Kurt Cobain died.
But Jack White and his music have never been particularly meaningful to me, so why do I have vivid memories? The first time I heard a White Stripes song? “Seven Nation Army” at a First Avenue dance night in Minneapolis. The Raconteurs? In a little parking lot on Prairie Island in Red Wing, MN. And now, the first time I’ve heard Jack’s new music from the Dead Weather, a project including Allison Mosshart from The Kills and two more Raconteurs? Right here, right now, on Borangutan. It’s strange.
